Watson Wins With New Pro V1x

New Season. New Champion. New Golf Ball. Fairhaven, MA (January 31, 2011) - Pro V1x loyalist Bubba Watson relied upon a New Titleist Pro V1x golf ball in winning the Farmers Insurance Open, the same weekend the New Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls were officially introduced to the trade at the 2011 PGA Merchandise Show.

Watson got up-and-down from a greenside bunker on the par-5 18th hole, rolling in his New Titleist Pro V1x golf ball for birdie from 12 feet for a closing 5-under 67 and one-shot victory. It is his second win in his last 12 starts on the PGA Tour. Watson finished at 16-under 272.

It was a four-day display of both power and precision by Watson with the New Pro V1x, as he led the field in both Driving Distance (316.6 yards) and Greens In Regulation (81.94 percent), making seven birdies, one eagle and just one bogey over his last 20 holes.

"What the New Pro V1x has been doing for me is a little bit higher ball flight, which is what I am looking for, with long distance and same spin," said Watson. "I want it to go higher, and land softer and quicker, especially on the firm greens we play."

- Watson was one of 102 players that trusted Titleist golf balls at the event, more than six times the nearest competitor with 15 and more than all other competitors combined.

- He was one of 43 players (and growing each week) that relied upon New Pro V1 or New Pro V1x golf balls, which will begin shipping to golf shops worldwide in February.

- Titleist was also first in Iron Sets (41); Sand, Lob and Approach Wedges (136); and Putters (57).

- Titleist golf ball loyalists have captured three of the first four events on the 2011 PGA Tour schedule, with 299 players teeing it up in competition. That is nearly seven times the closest competitor. Across the worldwide professional tours, 1,152 players have played Titleist golf balls, more than six times the nearest competitor and more than all other golf balls combined.
- Of the 12 players that finished among the top 10 and ties at the Farmers Insurance Open, seven trusted Titleist golf balls, including Pro V1x loyalist D.A. Points (5th), and Titleist Brand Ambassador Nick Watney, who played a New Pro V1x to shoot a final-round 9-under 63 (and front-nine 28). It matched the lowest score shot on the South Course since the layout was redesigned in preparation for the 2001 Open. Watney tied with two players for 6th, including another New Pro V1x loyalist, Hunter Mahan.

- Overnight leader and Titleist Brand Ambassador Bill Haas (Pro V1x, 910D2 driver, 910F fairway metal, CB irons, Vokey Design wedges, Scotty Cameron Studio Select Kombi putter) finished at 9-under 279, placing in the top-10 for the second straight week. He tied for 9th with three players, including fellow Titleist Brand Ambassadors Troy Matteson (Pro V1, 910D2 driver, 910Fd fairway metal, ZB and ZM irons, Vokey TVD wedges, Scotty Cameron Kombi Mid Size putter) and Marc Leishman (New Pro V1x, 910D2 driver, 910F fairway metal, 910H hybrid, AP2 and MB irons, Vokey TVD wedges, Scotty Cameron prototype putter).

• SOUTH AFRICAN TOUR: Pro V1x loyalist Theunis Spangenberg claimed his maiden Sunshine Tour title, capturing the rain-shortened Africom Zimbabwe Open by two shots. Spangenberg built up a comfortable lead on the front nine on Sunday and then held on with key par saves down the stretch, closing with a 2-under 70 to post a 15-under 201 total for the 54-hole event. Spangenberg was one of 102 players in the field that trusted Titleist, more than four times the nearest competitor with 23.
